Beyond Kinsale is the gateway to the area known as West Cork. If you visit Ireland and don't spend time in West Cork, you are missing out on some of the most idyllic scenery and hospitable people in the country!
West Cork is renowned for its natural beauty and breathtaking scenery.. but that is not all you will find here in West Cork - a vast range of activities, entertainment, cuisine and accommodation are on offer. Whether you are travelling to Cork for a family holiday, a romantic getaway or simply a weekend hotel break, we will find you the most suitable West Cork hotels. West Cork is known for its enticing and colorful towns, from the seaside town of Skibbereen (meaning "little boat harbor") and its 22 pubs to the immaculate, picturesque town of Clonakilty , the yachting town Baltimore , where you will find a wide variety of water sports; and Barleycove, a remote, windswept resort that's the last stop before Mizen Head - Ireland's most southerly point, and in the north of the county the town of Bantry .
Baltimore is a very attractive village, harbour and sailing base 13km south-west of Skibbereen. A ferry service for Sherkin and Cape Clear islands departs from here. Casey's of Baltimore is s small family run hotel, overlooking the harbour, with just 14 rooms, and every effort is made to make guests feel utterly at home and comfortable during their stay here.
Travelling West from Cork city, the first major town you will meet after Kinsale is Clonakilty. One of the prettiest towns in all of Ireland and winner of many awards for tidy towns, Clonakilty is also close to some of the finest streches of sand beaches in West Cork. Hotels in the area are plentiful but we recommend the Quaility Hotel & Leisure Centre Clonakilty . This three star hotel has everything you could possibly need for a break away. Lannigans Steakhouse, Oscars Bar, Full extesnsive leisure centre, a multiplex cinema and spectacular surroundings! Leave your cares behind with a visit to the Lodge and Spa, Inchydoney Island. The next major town is Skibereen, a bustling market town with a truly cosmopolitan feel. Call us to book a hotel in Skibereen before proceeding onto the Mizen Peninsula. Mizen Head is the most southerly point in Ireland and while you are ulikely to find a hotel on the headland, nearby towns of Crookhaven and further along Schull may provide the accommodation you require. Spectacular cliff walks, fabulous scenery and cold winds are prominent features of this most isolated part of Cork.
Heading North towards Kerry, you will encounter one of West Cork's larger towns: Bantry is a coastal market town with plenty to offer the visitor. The Westlodge Hotel is located on the edge of the Beautiful town of Bantry. A wonderful setting with a range of accommodation available, from budget accommodation to luxury hotels, everyone will find something to suit them. Just a few miles up the road lies Ballylickey where a variety of hotels and accommodation is also available including the Seaview House Hotel , a splendid country house hotel and restaurant; and Ballylickey Manor Hotel a beautiful 17th century manor house and 4 star. The hotel is set in 4 hectares of lush green parkland and ornamental gardens, bordered by the Ouvane River and overlooking Bantry Bay.
The final destination on our whistlestop tour of the hotels and attractions of West Cork is the Beara Penninsula. The most northerly of the peninsulas of West Cork, Glengariff is the gateway to this rural gem. A small village surrounded by rugged mountains and wooded valleys, a visit to nearby Garnish Island with its famous Italian Gardens is a must! Further towards the Atlantic coast, Castletownbere is the main town on the Beara Peninnsula. Fishing is an important industry in this seaside town and great seafood and fine pubs can be found here.
