In and around Cork City are many towns well worth a visit. This section has information on some of the best hotels and accomodation in the smaller towns surrounding Cork city including Glanmire , Cobh , Fota, Blarney, Ballincollig, Carrigaline, Crosshaven and the area in and around the airport. There is also a number of attractions in these areas worth visiting, some as day trips from the city but some will warrant an overnight stay in one of the hotels recommended by us!
Cork Airport is located just 10K from the city centre. There is a shuttle service which operates from the Aiport but if you would prefer to stay nearer the airport. the Cork Airport Travelodge is lcoated just 1 mile from the airport. It offers very reasonable, comfortable modern accommodation for families and business travellers alike. Recently redeveloped Oriel House Hotel offers excellent accommodation with top class facilities including 25m swimming pool, kiddies pool and gymnasium, and enjoys and excellent location just 10 minutes from the airport and the city centre.
If you want to be near to Cork City but dont want to be in the city centre, check out Vienna Woods Hotel - its only a few mins from Cork city and has 20 acres of privately owned grounds. 50 Bedrooms, food available all day and a great spot if your looking for a bit of golf as there are plenty of Munster's finest golf courses close by.
Cork Airport is just a 15 minute drive from the city centre although there is a hotel at the airport if you wish to stay there. Blarney town is just 8 KM outside of Cork city and is well worth the visit as it is home to the world famous Blarney Stone, as well a host of other attractions. The town itself is charming and the people very friendly. The town square is the centre piece of the town. Pay a visit to historical Blarney Castle, the home of the Blarney stone for an authentic Cork experience! Down the road you will find the Blarney Park Hotel another fine three star hotel which has a full leisure centre and swimming pool. The infamous Blarney Woollen Mills Store is located in the heart of Blarney village; renowed for its woollen clothing and Irish merchandise, no visit to Blarney is complete without a trip to the Woollen Mills. Carrigaline is located 12Km from Cork city and 5km from the airport. The main attraction in this peaceful satellite town is Carragline Castle, built over 800 years ago. Currabinney Woods are beautiful to visit no matter what the time of year, but wrap up warm in the winter months! From Currabinney Woods, across the peninsula to the Northwest you can see the towns of Crosshaven and Cobh. Crosshaven is a small town at the mouth of the Owenabue River which is known as a haven for watersports enthusiasts. 14 Km away, the Monkstown-Carrigaloe ferry will bring you across to the Islands in Cork Harbour and to the towns of Cobh and Fota.
Cobh on Great Island in Cork Harbour was the last of Ireland many Irish were ever to see when they emigrated during he great famine of the 1840's. Today, it is a place full of memories and a reminder of how Cobh and Ireland are thriving today. Another tragedy which has tainted Cobh's history is the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. Today, Cobh is much different place. Connected to the other islands of Cork Harbour (Fota Island and Little Island) by bridges and roads, the focal point of the town is the harbour which is one of the largest and safest in the world! Of the other Islands in the harbour, Fota is the best known. Here you will find Fota wildlife park, home to many species of wildlife in as open and spacious an area as if they were in the wild! Adults and Children will enjoy a trip to this nature reserve. The wildlife park is just 14 Km from Cobh.
